Gatt Consulting Ltd work examples:

  • Research to identify the health needs of Asian people in the Counties Manukau area. The research took a mixed-method approach consisting of interviews with key stakeholders, focus groups with Asian communities, workshops with Public Health Organisations, a literature review on several specific health issues (e.g. diabetes), and a quantitative assessment of the mental health status of Asian populations and their alcohol and drug use. The results were used to develop a strategy to address Asian peoples' health - Counties Manukau District Health Board.

  • Researched the views of urban local authorities regarding their relationship with the science of research. Methods included an online survey, key stakeholder interviews and workshops - Ministry for Research Science and Technology.

  • Research to gather the experiences of former quota refugees on issues of long-term settlement and integration. The research utilised a qualitative approach consisting of interviews and focus groups with former refugees. The results were analysed and prepared into the report: “Looking Back: Former Refugee Perspectives on their Settlement in New Zealand” - Department of Labour.

  • Conducted a review of the Creative Communities Scheme. The research involved a survey of all local authorities in New Zealand, and interviews and focus groups with grant recipients and other key stakeholders to produce four case studies and a report that included recommendations on the future shape of the Scheme - Creative New Zealand.

  • Facilitated strategic planning and governance workshops for the Mayor and councillors - Kapiti Coast District Council.
  • Designed and implemented a mixed methods research approach to generate data for an updated edition of the Cultural Indicators for New Zealand report. The research involved developing a database of New Zealand venues that host a wide range of cultural events, conducting key stakeholder interviews and undertaking a survey across a national sample of venues using an online and paper-based questionnaire - Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
  • Peer reviewed a think-piece on central government’s role in urban settlements - Ministry for the Environment.
  • Designed and implemented a New Zealand-wide public consultation programme for a joint Department of Internal Affairs and State Services Commission identity verification project. This involved designing the methodology (including a questionnaire and focus group facilitation process); undertaking data collection (using online, paper-based and face-to-face methods and recruitment and selection of over 200 people to participate in 21 focus groups across New Zealand including facilitation of those focus groups); managing the overall project; providing a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results and preparing a report on findings - Department of Internal Affairs.
  • Designed and implemented an organisational review of the New Zealand Council of Social Services (NZCOSS). The review involved researching the views of members, stakeholders, funders and counterpart organisations using face-to-face, telephone and online surveys; a document search; key stakeholder workshops and focus groups and preparation of a report that provided direction for the future of the organisation – NZCOSS.
  • Conducted a literature review to address the increases in the female prison population to 2007. The work involved investigating the underlying causes of, and possible reasons for the increase and considered successful New Zealand approaches to reduce women's offending - Ministry of Women's Affairs.
  • Researched the Department of Labour’s (DoL) role in major industry sector engagements to identify what has been learned, and the impacts and implications for future policy and practice. The research used a qualitative approach and included questionnaire development, face-to-face and phone interviews; planning and facilitating key stakeholder workshops; qualitative analysis of interview outputs and report preparation – Department of Labour.
  • Conducted qualitative research and a literature review of engagement practices to inform the development of staff 'Guide to Engagement'. The work involved interviewing staff, researching best practices approaches and writing the Guide – Department of Labour.
  • Peer reviewed a formative evaluation conducted to assess the effectiveness of the Department of Internal Affair's role in fostering central/local government relationships - Department of Internal Affairs.
  • Conducted a literature review to inform the development of a system of prioritisation to enable the identification of priority sectors and industries for engagement - Department of Labour.
  • Conducted statistical and qualitative research and trend analysis to develop the Quality of Life in NZs Largest Cities project and to inform the Local Government New Zealand Metro Mayor’s policy agenda with the Prime Minister – CEO Forum.
  • Established a performance framework involving research, policy evaluation, and indicators - Wellington City Council.
  • Conducted qualitative and quantitative research to inform Tomorrow's Manukau, a strategy for the future development of Manukau City - Manukau City Council.
  • Prepared a Strategy on the future of affordable housing in the Auckland Region - Auckland Regional Affordable Housing Strategy. This included researching aspects of the housing market and social housing practices in New Zealand and elsewhere as an input to the strategy - Auckland Regional Growth Forum.
  • Researched and provided strategic advice to the CEO of Manukau City Council as he worked with the then CEO of Housing NZ and Counties Manukau District health, to develop the pilot 'Healthy Homes' project in Manukau City - Manukau City Council.
  • Researched and developed a Treaty of Waitangi (Governance) Strategy - Manukau City Council.
  • Researched and developed a strategy to foster employment growth - A Manukau Employment Strategy - Manukau City Council.
